It sends them a message... It would be annoying, sure, but how is it terrifying?

I suppose everything must be terrifying when you're as much a Pansy as Ian is...

You are. You know you are.
Denying it only makes it worse.

Oh really?
Well then, you must also be a Pansy, for only a Pansy would say something as childish and ineffectual as that.

Even your userpic tells me that you are a Pansy!

Ha ha! Pansy!

In itself, it's no more bothersome than an email, and can just be ignored, but the way this feature is worded is really terrible. "Be a friend and go post" is a sort of weird emotional blackmail.

On the other hand, the feature itself - a way of facilitating a sort of 'Hey, haven't heard from you in a while' message - is pretty useful, particularly for people you don't know IRL and who don't list an email address, but would still like to check up on.

This is a trend with LJ, producing handy features whose social and linguistic features are presented in a weird and even offensive way ... I think they need to hire an applied linguist.

That's why I chose terrifying - it's not wrong per se, and I can see how it's useful, but I don't like it and it's creepy. It's myspace-y - blackmail is right. It's about making people use their livejournal a certain way - my favourite thing about lj is that other people don't affect me any more than I want them to.

Well if you are doing your duty to the party livejournal and posting once a week then they can't nudge you! ;V

If the pete is bothering you just rub your nipples at him...its like waving a cross at a vampire :D

Dave, you are a bad and wrong individual, and I am very glad that there is a great deal of distance between you and me.

And you also are a Pansy.
A baldy, nipple-rubbing Pansy.
